Topical Lidocaine

If you are looking to temporarily decrease the surface burning sensation on the tongue, there is topical lidocaine available for oral use.

I have used this product for times when the burning is particularly bothersome, and just want to get some brief respite from the pain.  It does not effect any of the deeper pain, but can eliminate some of the  surface sensation.

It is available on the web at:

http://www.beutlich.com/hurcons.htm

The effects of long term use are unknown.  I have tried to use it sparingly, although I have no evidence that more aggressive use would be detrimental.

If you try this product, let us know what you think.  Eventually I will have the survey section up for this purpose, but for now, just add your comments to the discussion board.
